Shawn Blackmon
Howdy! Most of you know me, and for those of you who don’t, I am Shawn Blackmon. I have been a resident of Waller for 6 years now. I am a true born and bred Texan. I am also a father, husband, brother, son, Marine, friend, and soon I hope to be your next Mayor. I've been married to my beautiful wife, Elizabeth, for 10 years & we have 4 wonderful children, all of whom attend Waller area schools.
Born in Houston, my family and I moved around the metro area where I graduated from Jersey Village High School. With dreams of always serving my community, I set my sights on the Marine Corps, and achieved my goal of earning the title of Marine. I trained as a Planning Specialist for worldwide movement. While stationed at Camp Lejeune I served and concluded my active-duty tour.
My experience in the United States Marine Corps has helped me develop many talents and trades. I have a vast range of skills, knowledge, and I hold myself to high standards in all tasks. I was given training in several departments, one of which was logistics. I was tasked with managing government funds regarding a range of applications such as individual travel card expenditures, unit yearly expenditures, audits, and procurement processes; all of which was done in the Planning section, Admin section, and Company office.
After a few years of travel and searching for the right place, I found myself working at a hardware store, where I have since worked up the ranks to become Store Manager. I now manage a retail store for a local corporation and currently oversee a large staff with daily operations including procurement management, accounts receivable, account maintenance, inventory maintenance, customer relations and general accountabilities.
My family and I arrived in Waller just after Hurricane Harvey's disastrous rampage to the Gulf Coast region. Since moving here, you, as a city, has welcomed my family and I, by treating us like “one of your own.” I feel like it is now my turn to give back to this wonderful city. I would be honored to have the opportunity to serve you as your next Mayor.
